A comparison of CVLT-II score substitutions with WMS-IV verbal paired associates scores in a sample of active duty soldiers with mild traumatic brain injury

Traumatic Brain Injury (Under the direction of Daniel Montoya PhD). Valid protocols from patients assessed for residuals of MTBI (Mild Traumatic Brain Injury) were analyzed to determine if WMS-IV (Wechsler Memory Scale – Fourth Edition) VPA (Verbal Paired Associates) and CVLT-II (California Verbal Learning Test – Second Edition) scores are equivalent in a clinical population of active duty US Army soldiers. WMS-IV scores were recomputed with CVLT-II substitutions per the WMS-IV manual. Paired-samples t-tests and Pearson\u27s r Correlation Coefficient were used to test the hypothesis that VPA standard scores and converted CVLT-II scores are equivalent in patients with MTBI. This hypothesis was not supported by the results. Thus, substitution of CVLT-II scores in the WMS-IV with a clinical population may result in erroneous conclusions by the examiner
