Support for African agricultural research institutes: a Netherlands perspective

The Dutch perspective of wise land use in Africa is related to the policies of the Directorate-General for International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For SC-DLO, the development of integrated soil and water management research for developing countries has been a focal area. Institutional development projects have been carried out in Mali, Tanzania and Egypt and are still running in Kenya and Mozambique. Success depends on donor and local government commitment. Recent developments are SC-DLO's involvement in research networks which are oriented towards sustainable development. Examples are the Tropenbos research programmes, the Inland Valley Consortium and the NUTMON programme
