The GEOPESTRAS model has been developed to calculate leaching of pesticides to shallow groundwater on a regional scale in the Netherlands. The model is a combination of the one-dimensional, process-oriented model PESTRAS with a geographical information system. Input on the use of pesticides on a regional scale is provided by the Information System on Pesticide Use. GEOPESTRAS is used on a routine basis within the framework of the annual report State of the Environment. The model has also been used for evaluating the Multi-Year Crop Protection Plan
