Introduction and objectivesWithin agricultural research increasing attention is paid to the integrated study of agro-ecosystems in order to address issues related to sustainable food production at the eco-regional level. This has been stimulated by the awareness that the world-wide demand for food will continue to increase while at the same there is high pressure on natural resources needed for food production, such as suitable soils and available water.
