Mindfulness has Buddhist roots, but exists as a human potential independent of this philosophical tradition. To be mindful means to be aware of current thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a curious, nonjudgmental way. Mindfulness is closely linked with awareness and allows one to become better acquainted with the workings of the mind. It also allows one to appreciate that thoughts and feelings are just occurrences, ones that do not need to be acted on.
