Hypertension and proteinuria are important mediators of renal damage. Despite therapeutic interventions, the number of patients with end stage renal disease steadily increases. Hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S) is an endogenously produced gasotransmitter with vasodilatory, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
