The hippocampus plays a crucial role in the consolidation of memory. Anatomically, the hippocampal head, body, and tail are connected to separate regions of the entorhinal cortex, which conveys processed information from the association cortices to the hippocampus. Little is known, however, about the functional segregation along its longitudinal axis.
