The effect of beta blockade on heart rate in patients with either idiopathic or ischemic cardiomyopathy was studied. It was found that beta blockade reduced the early morning increase in heart rate to a greater extent in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy than in those with ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy.</p
