Back from my post-doctoral internship at the NBS, I resumed my work on the kinetics of hydrocarbon oxidation, starting with the study of the combustion of methane and ethane. We then developed the first detailed kinetic mechanism for the combustion of natural gas, while methane combustion models were then used. This mechanism then served as a working basis for the modeling of higher hydrocarbons up to n-decane. At the same time, my work focused on the oxidation of unsaturated or polyunsaturated hydrocarbons (allene, propyne, acetylene, 1,3-butadiene) involved in the formation of soot and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
