Every second, 29 Tb of data are exchanged on the internet, and more than 90% of it travels through fiber-optic cables. The glass fibres are protected by several layers of polymer resins of different mechanical properties. The rapidity of the coating process leads to a build up of internal stresses that can eventually provoke cavitation in the first coating, decreasing the fibre protection.
