Religion, Race, and Rights: An Analysis of the Political and Economic Atmosphere of the Southeastern United States from 1776 to 2022

There is no doubt that the Southeastern United States has played host to some of the most influential, controversial, and polarizing moments in American history. From the secession of the Confederacy to Jim Crow laws to Reagan-country to the heartland of the MAGA movement, the South has always had its own brand of politics and opinions. But are these underlying political opinions the only or even the major contributor to these moments and milestones? This piece examines the political attitudes that have existed in the South across the existence of the United States, as well as the sociological, religious, and economic attitudes and atmospheres that have existed. Furthermore, this piece investigates the possible connections and contributions that these aforementioned factors have played in the composition, restructuring, and continuation of the uniqueness in the realm that is the Southeastern United States.
