The purpose of this study was to evaluate how two different feeding systems affect the welfare of sows. The feeding methods studied were walk-in/lock-in feeding booths versus electronic transponder feeding (Electronic Sow Feeding, ESF) and response variables were the number of aggressive bites and stereotyped bar biting. Walk-in/lock-in booths do restricts the sow's ability to perform a more natural foraging behavior compared to electronic transponder feeding and this should lead to (1) more stereotyped bar biting and (2) more aggressive attacks in the form of aggressive biting in the stall with walk-in/lock-in booths.
