Fuel Production From Pure Carbondioxide and Polluted Air Using a Cyanobacteria Isolated

The carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from fossil fuels contributes to global warming. This phenomenon became a major political issue in the fields of science, environment, and economy in current years. Microalgae can convert CO2, into biomass and oxygen through the photosynthesis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of pure CO2 and polluted air containing high level CO2. CO2 fixation efficiency by S. elongatus Cyanobacteria in the biomass composition produced. CO2, can be used to synthesise energy rich organic molecules such as bio-fuels. In this study, in order to minimize the CO2-levels in Aliaga District-Izmir Turkey and to obtain fuel as an alternative of gasoline pure and S. elongatus isolated from Foca sea and Foca underground water were compaired to produce 1-butanol from pure CO2 and from polluted air containing high levels of CO2 via photosynthesis. The maximum 1-butanol production was 99 mg/L and the 1-butanol-produced/CO2-utilized efficiency is 92% in the S. elongates species isolated from the Foca sea coast at 30 W light intensity at a pH 6.8 at 25 mV redox potential at a flowrate of 0.099 m(3)/min using CO2 from the Aliaga Industrial Region together dissolved O-2 at a concentration of 0.9 mg/L under optimized conditions. The maximum cost for 1 liter 1-butanol production was determined as 0.73 TL/L( 0.23 Euro/L) in the presence of 1 mg/l SO4-2, 1 mg/L NaHCO3 and 2 mg/l NaCl at 28 degrees C at a light intensity of 30 W with 0.82 mg/L NO3-1
