Ett hindutempels verksamhet och funktion i diaspora : En etnografisk studie om ett swaminaryantempel i Mellansverige

This essay has been investigate a Hindu swaminarayantempel in central Sweden, its activities and function from a diaspora perspective. Also to investigate the relationship between Hindu diaspora groups and in relation to South Asia. An ethnographic method was used. The result of this study shows that the key activities temple provides the puja. Pujan is the most frequent activity in the investigated Temple. The temple also provides other activities that often are linked to anniversaries and celebrations of festive calendar, such as Diwali or gods' birthdays. The investigated temple has a similar function as other diaspora groups. The temple has a explicit social, consciousness and cultural function. The various functions are intertwined, community, cultural heritage, language, the Hindu identity and religiosity overlap. Swamniarayantempel known as a cosmopolitan Hinduism, which means that the movement touched on a strictly sectarian attitude with strong ties to Gujurat and asketutbildningar while movement is universalistic and ecumenical, making operations more transparent. Swaminarayantempel coexists with other directions and adapts to the surrounding community in a flexible way. Participants in the temple lives in a multiplex environment and coexisting multiple identities, where they can highlight a particular identity in a particular environment, which makes them a cosmopolitan Hinduism.Undersökningens syfte har varit att undersöka ett hinduiskt swaminarayantempel i Mellansverige, dess verksamhet och funktion utifrån ett diasporaperspektiv. Syftet har också varit att undersöka hur man ser på relationen mellan hinduiska diasporagrupper samt i förhållande till deras hemfästen i främst Sydasien. En etnografisk metod har används. Resultaten från denna underökning visar att den mest centrala verksamhet templet tillhandahåller är puja. Pujan är den mest frekventa verksamheten i det undersökta templet. Templet tillhandahåller även andra aktiviteter som ofta är kopplade till högtidsdagar och fester enligt festkalendern, som till exempel Diwali eller gudars födelsedagar. Det undersökta templet har liknande funktion som andra diasporagrupper. Templet har en tydlig social-, medvetande- och kulturell funktion. De olika funktionerna går in i varandra, gemenskapen, kulturarvet, språket, den hinduiska identiteten och religiositeten går omlott. Swamniarayantempel benämns som en kosmopolitisk hinduism, vilket innebär att rörelsen tangeras av en strikt sekteristisk hållning med starka band till Gujurat och asketutbildningar samtidigt som rörelsen är universalistisk och ekumenisk, vilket gör rörelsen mer öppen. Swaminarayantempel samexisterar med andra riktningar och anpassar sig till omgivande samhälle på ett flexibelt sätt. Deltagarna i templet lever i en multiplex miljö och har samexisterande multipla identiteter, där de kan framhäva en viss identitet i en viss miljö, vilket gör dem till en kosmopolitisk hinduism
