A Comparision of Match Analysis and Physiologial Demans of Soccer Within the Context of Offside Rule Revision

A player is in an offside position if he/she is closer to the opponent's goal line than both theball and the second-to-last defender, but only if the player is on his opponent's half of thepitch. Offside rule applies to half court. If the offside rule is revised and applied to onethird of the pitch, offside area will be narrowed. Such a modification of the rule willprovide to active play area to expand. The purposes of this study are to measure andevaluate if whether there are alterations in terms of distance covered, and match analysisparameters between matches which played with offside rule and revised offside rule. Ahome-away league organized for the study. For every match, one competition played withoffside rule and other played with revised offside rule. Total, slow, mediate and high speeddistance covered increase significantly in competitions with revised offside rule. Short passand dribbling increased significantly in competitions with revised offside rule while longpass and offside decreased significantly. Consequently, by the revising offside rule, activearea enlarged and it makes the game more dynamic.
