A temporal overlap between vestibular symptoms, such as vertigo and head movement intolerance, and migraine symptoms, such as headache, photophobia, and phonophobia, is a requisite diagnostic criterion for the diagnosis of vestibular migraine (VM). Diagnostic criteria for VM have been proposed by an International Vestibular Research Group (the Barany Society) and a headache research group (International Headache Society); however, in practice, it is still acceptable to divide patients suspected of VM into "definite VM" and "probable VM" groups.
