An elaborate experimental system is designed and built in Hydraulics Laboratory, Civil Engineering Department, Dokuz Eylul University. The sediment transport in steady flow conditions has been studied to correlate the flow parameters with the transported sediment amount. In this paper, the experimental system, its elements and their functions are explained. The critical point for inception of sediment motion is investigated by theoretical approaches and compared with the results obtained from the experiments. Additionally, the measured bed load values are compared with those calculated from the empirical relations given in the relevant literature
