Duringthe early periods of The Byzantine Empire, jewellery developed as acontinuation of the Roman jewellery both in terms of form and method. Thedistictive Byzantian forms, patterns and methods developed after the 6thcentury when Constantinople became the centre of jewellery. Furthermore, inorder to improve the court jtewellery, creaion of a Byzantian style was enabledby sending for craftsmen from Alexandria and Antakya.
