The catalytic protonation of aryl diazoacetates by strong Brønsted acids, followed by a Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction with electron rich aromatic compounds, is reported. The reaction provided in a direct fashion 24 geminal diarylacetates in yields of ≤92%.</p
