Respiratory or metabolic diseases do affect the gas exchange between blood and exhaled air, and thus the concentration of biomarkers in the blood. The measurement of transcutaneous gases makes it possible to monitor continuously the concentration of given volatile compounds in the blood, such as the carbon dioxide (CO2).
