The terahertz (THz) frequency domain is of increasing interest for many applications, including medical imaging, molecular spectroscopy or modifications of condensed matter states. This thesis is devoted to the generation of such radiations by laser-plasma interactions, in which a laser-ionized gas acts as a converter from laser (optical) frequency to lower frequencies. We start by studying photoionization, from which a low-frequency current emitting in the THz frequency range is produced by introducing a second harmonic (or color) in the laser pulse ionizing the gas.
