TNF is a pleiotropic cytokine described to play a prominent role in several inflammatory disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and psoriasis. For the treatment of many of these pathologies, synthetic glucocorticoids (GCs) are prescribed. GCs exert their function by binding to their receptor, the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), which is one of the strongest anti-inflammatory molecules encoded in mammalian genomes.
