Despite the early understanding of the concept of chirality, a couple of decades ago, drugs containing stereogenic centers were developed and used mainly as racemates. However, since the emergence of new technologies that allow the preparation of pure enantiomers in significant quantities, the awareness and interest in the stereochemistry of drug action has increased and different stereoisomers are currently used for different therapeutic applications.
