Freedom of expression and information in Europe

Developments in Europe on Freedom of Expression and Transparancy. This article explores some of the characteristics and developments of the European Court’s case law regarding media, journalism, and freedom of expression and information, applying Article 10 of the Convention. It describes how Article 10 of the Convention has become a crucial instrument to motivate, stimulate and even compel national authorities of member states to abstain from interferences in freedom of speech and press freedom; to respect freedom of public debate, political expression and critical journalism to a higher degree; and to promote media pluralism and internet freedom
