La bataille de Varna (1444) selon les chroniques bourguignonnes et ottomanes: que disent les sources sur l'idéologie de l'État?

In this presentation, I basically demonstrate that the relations between medieval Europe and the Ottoman world did not only consist of conflict, but also of mutual influences and exchange. However, most of the studies on exchange between medieval Europe and the Islamic world have been primarily focused on economic and political history. An in-debt analysis and comparison of their political cultures or ‘state ideologies’ is still an underdeveloped topic within that field. This paper is aimed to determine whether there was a commonly shared political principles between the Ottoman and medieval European state ideologies. As a case-study, I particularly focus on the Anciennes Chroniques d'Angleterre by the Burgundian chronicler, Jehan de Wavrin, and the anonymous Gazavatname (Book of Campaign) dedicated to Sultan Murad II. This paper also endorses the idea that medieval Europe or Burgundy and the early Ottoman Empire were both part of a wider Eurasian zone, covering interconnected cultures from Western Europe to Asia
