A non-regenerative immune-mediated hemolytic anemia with icterus and pure red cell aplasia was diagnosed in a six month old male mongrel dog. A species-specific Coombs' test was positive at 4-degrees-C. Two blood transfusions and an immunosuppressive therapy with high doses of corticosteroids (2 mg/kg/day) improved the condition of the dog. After ten days of hospitalisation, necrotic lesions caused by cold agglutination occurred, which were fatal to the dog
