Fixateur interne mit Pins und Polymethymethacrylat zur Fixation einer Instabilität des 5. und 6. Halswirbels nach Ventral-Operation bei einem Rottweilerrüden

A 31/2 year old male Rottweiler dog with progressive tetraparesis was presented at the veterinary teaching hospital for small animal surgery of the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen. The owner told us that the dog had been operated by the local veterinarian between the 5(th) and 6(th) cervical vertebra because of chronic discopathy 8 weeks before. Because of recurrence of signs the slot was enlarged in a second operation by the veterinarian. The neurological examination and the X-ray showed instability of the 5(th) and 6(th) cervical vertebra with dynamic compression by remaining disc material in the spinal canal. The chronic pressure on the cervical spine lead to the symptoms of caudal cervical spondylomyelopathy. The operative enlargement of the ventral slot with excision of remaining disc material and the stabilisation with pins and polymethylmethacrylate (Fixateur interne) are described
