In recent years, HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) is becoming the de facto standard for video delivery over the best effort Internet. In HAS, the video consists out of multiple temporal segments encoded at different quality rates. In this way, HAS allows to dynamically adapt the quality level to the perceived network conditions. Using Scalable Video Coding (SVC), the redundancy between these representations can be eliminated, increasing the efficiency of server and caching infrastructure. Software Defined Networking (SDN) allows the dynamic adjustment of forwarding tables to reroute different flows.
