Environmental cause in the far-right: from negationism to ecofascism analysis of the politicization of the environment by the far-right in Brazil and Hungary

Dissertação de mestrado em Ciência PolíticaA problemática trazida por esta pesquisa gira em torno de dois governos distintos - porém semelhantes - em diversos aspetos, situados em diferentes continentes, com o intuito de ilustrar as duas possibilidades de abordagens da extrema-direita no contexto das políticas ambientais, demonstrando como o fascismo se manifesta por vias nem sempre tão óbvias relativamente ao seu esteio ideológico, no que tange em concreto ao trata mento das questões ambientais. Através de uma análise comparativa entre os líderes atuais de Brasil e Hungria, Jair Bolsonaro e Viktor Orbán, o presente trabalho buscará evidenciar como em ambos os países a crise democrática que estão vivendo se reflete também na forma como as questões ambientais são entendidas por ambos os governos.The problematic of this research revolves around two distinct gov ernments that are also similar in many aspects, situated in different conti nents, aiming at illustrating the two approaches taken by the far-right in the context of environmental politics, demonstrating how fascism manifests through means not always so obvious in relation to its ideological mainstay, with regard specifically to the treatment of environmental issues. Through a comparative analysis between the current political leaders of Brazil and Hungary, Jair Bolsonaro and Viktor Orbán, the present dissertation focuses on evidencing that both countries are going through a democratic crisis and that, in both contexts, environment has suffered serious consequences
