The term work-based learning is widely used throughout the literature, academia and industry to describe a multiplicity of approaches by which one can learn through work. This thesis focuses on the rationale for conducting work-based learning and blended learning. Qualitative data was gathered from questionnaires with students and interviews with students, industry champions, course developers and employers.The results show that effective work-based learning is not the simple implementation of one single model or single tool, but rather a negotiated approach to the students’ learning which takes account of the business case for the employer.
