Interest of simulation in the evaluation of initial and continuing training in healthcare safety

Introduction: Simulation is a teaching method used to train and assess the learning of medical professionals. The aim was to estimate its contribution in the evaluation of initial training (IT) and continuing training (CT), through the ability of paramedical students (PMS) and paramedical professionals (PMP) to detect errors placed in an error room (ER) and their satisfaction with the latter. Material and method: evaluative study comparing the ability to detect 20 errors related to standard precautions (SP) in hospital hygiene (HH) placed in the ER between 300 PMS and 156 PMP of Batna university hospital. The satisfaction of the participants of the ER method was scored according to the Likert scale from 1 to 5. The means of the detected errors and the satisfaction scores were compared by the student's t test with a risk of error of 5%. Results: All types of errors combined; the mean number was 9.84±0.145 errors for PMS and 9.67±0.228 errors for PMP without statistically significant difference. The satisfaction survey showed that participants were satisfied with the ER, with an average score greater than 4.5 out of 5, with no statistical difference. Conclusion: The ER allowed the participants to recognize their mistakes and to correct them, with a fair play spirit
