TREND AND GROWTH PROSPECTUS OF SERICULTURE IN KARNATAKA

More than 30 countries across the world are the producer of sericulture. Global production of silk between 2010 and 2016 is 38%. In India about 60 lakhs persons employed in rural and semi urban areas in sericulture. At national level there is a significant relative change in the production of mulberry silk between 2010-11 to 2016-17 and the relative change in the said time period is about 30.03. About 12 lakh people are engage in sericulture in Karnataka.The process of urbanization, scarcity in the rain fall, price fall, increasing in the cost of rearing silkworm and cultivation of mulberry, the production of silk in Karnataka is seems to be pale in in Karnataka and it seems to down trend in recent days. Therefore, the present paper is intended to study the growth pattern of silk production at three levels and deriving the comparative study of the trend in the production of silk at national level and state level of Karnataka
