35. * Eugenia inirebensis P.E.Sánchez, Phytologia 61: 127 (1986) EOO: 7,664.678 km ². AOO: 16 km ². Evaluation of IUCN: Vulnerable. Eugenia inirebensis is endemic to Mexico and restrict to in the state of Veracruz. The species occurs in the biome called Humid Tropical Forest, between 300 to 1,300 m elev. The estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) falls within the thresholds of the Vulnerable category under the criterion B. The area of occupancy (AOO) would probably exceed the thresholds of Endangered category if the remaining habitat available is taken in account. There are inferred only up to four known locations for this species based on its five collections recorded in four municipalities, including two collections within the protected area “Reserva de la Biosfera Los Tuxtlas” (CONANP 2006a). The habitat is gradually deteriorating due to the impact of urban development and pressure from the agricultural frontier (CONABIO 2018). The major threats for this species are the urban expansion, agriculture expansion focused on crops production and the increase of illegal forest fires used to expand areas of livestock farming. The protected area where this species occurs has been studied and it is estimated that it contains about half of the species of Veracruz flora and corresponds to one of the last remnants of the humid tropical forest (Dirzo & García 1992, Castillo-Campos & Laborde 2004, Arroyo-Rodríguez et al. 2010). At present Eugenia inirebensis is classified as Vulnerable (VU) as it meets the criteria B1ab(iii)+B2ab(iii). Specimen examined:— MEXICO.
