UNDERSTANDING KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY

Knowledge Society is another important and interesting concept evolved in the recent years, related to information and communication. The Idea of the present day knowledge society owes its origin to the vast increase in data collection and information dissemination that resulted from the innovation of information technologies. Only the capacity of individuals’ to access and development of information technology does not necessarily result in knowledge creation. Information alone won’t create knowledge society. A proper knowledge society should respect and promote human rights, equality and it should be inclusive in all respects. Improvement in the human life should be the basic aim of the knowledge society. This type of knowledge society is essential for society, polity, economy and for our civilian life. The real knowledge should be responsive to the social life and to the global brotherhood. The paper intends to analyze the concept of knowledge society in the light of, the future of higher education, risks and human society in the knowledge society and participation and knowledge society focusing on the UNESCO’s Report on the knowledge society
