Anterhynchium (Anterhynchium) andreanum (de Saussure, 1890) (Fig. 27–28) Odynerus andreanus de Saussure 1890: 161 (key), 167, pl. 19 figs. 4, 4c,t, ♀, ♁—“ Nosibé Madagascar ” (lectotype MHNG [here designated], paralectotypes MHNG and ZMHB). Odynerus andreanus discolor Giordani Soika 1941: 174, ♀ —“Bekily” (lectotype lost). Syn. nov. Diagnosis. This species can be recognized by: coloration dark red-brown with apical yellow lines on T1–T2 and S2 and wings hyaline with orange tinge, punctures on mesosoma less coarse with flat interspaces, punctation of T2 dense and uniform, pronotal carina shortly lamellate, propodeal angles rounded,T1 subtruncate basally and parallel sided, clypeus of male dull and not punctured, F8 of male deeply emarginate to accommodate apex of F11, which is depressed dorsoventrally and obliquely truncate at apex, mid femur of male basally depressed on ventral side. Typical material examined. Lectotype of Odynerus andreanus: “nossi—bé // Odyn. / andreanus / ♁ Sss. // MHNG / ENTO ♁ / 00013319 // Odynerus andreanus / de Saussure, 1890 / LECTOTYPE / Des. Marco Selis 2022” (MHNG). Description. MALE. Lectotype. Fore wing length 9.0 mm. Head 1.2 × as wide as long in frontal view. Clypeus in lateral view weakly and evenly convex; in frontal view 1.2 × as long as wide, apical margin truncate, about 0.3 × as wide as clypeus width, apical teeth in form of sharp obtuse angles, with very short dull carinae. Interantennal space with a dull median ridge. Distance from posterior ocellus to occipital carina 2.4 × as long as distance from posterior ocellus to inner eye margin. Gena 0.8 × as wide as eye at bottom of ocular sinus; occipital carina complete, uniform in entire length. Scape 3 × as long as apically wide; F1 2 × as long as wide; F2–F5 and F9 longer than wide; F6–F8 and F10 subquadrate; F8 deeply emarginate to accommodate apex of F11; F9 curved, depressed on ventral side; F11 large, in dorsal view paralle sided, then obliquely truncate at apex with a projection on external side, in lateral view nearly entirely straight, weakly curved at apex, depressed dorsoventrally. Pronotum elongate, distance from pronotal carina to posterior margin of pronotum about as long as apical width of scape; pronotal carina complete, shortly lamellate and weakly depressed on median line; pretegular carina strong; sides of pronotum in dorsal view converging anteriorly. Mesoscutum 0.85 × as long as wide between tegulae, weakly convex in lateral view. Scutellum flattened, nearly on same level of mesoscutum. Metanotum in lateral view angles, with irregular carina separating horizontal face from vertical one. Tegula elongate, outer margin evenly convex; posterior lobe triangular and almost equaling parategula. Parategula short and weakly curved, apically rounded. Mesepisernum with strong epicnemial carina, reaching up to indistinct transverse furrow. Propodeum in lateral view weakly convex; posterior face broadly and shallowly depressed, median furrow triangular with dorsal base and long about half length of propodeum; dorsal faces weakly convex, with a weak separation from posterior face; lateral faces rounded posteroventrally, weakly separated from other faces of propodeum; posterolateral corners of propodeum distinctly produced but rounded. T1 subtruncate at base, in dorsal view 0.65 × as long as wide, sides almost parallel sided; in lateral view anterior vertical face perpendicular with posterior horizontal one, transition rounded. T2 wider than long in dorsal view, weakly depressed in apical third in lateral view. S 2 in lateral view convex in basal half. Mid femur with a deep excavation on ventral side of proximal half. Head with shallow flat bottomed punctures, interspaces with some micropunctures and narrower than or equal to punctures diameter, becoming larger on lower part of frons and gena. Clypeus dull due to irregular sculpture, with some indistinct punctures on sides. Pronotum, mesoscutum and scutellum sculpted similar to head, but punctures deeper and larger, interspaces dull and narrower on scutellum. Metanotum very coarsel punctured in upper two thirds, impunctate in lower third. Mesepisternum with large flat bottomed punctures, some forming irregular serie, interspaces irregular in length. Metaepisternum smooth with some sparse indistinct punctures. Dorsal faces of propodeum coarsely punctured like metanotum; posterior face with regular oblique striae not reaching lateral margins; lateral faces with very shallow and irregular striae and sparse oblique punctures. Metasomal terga with dense deep oblique punctures, denser and finer on sides of T2, disappearing apical terga; S1 irregularly punctured, S2–S7 punctured similar to respective terga, but punctures sparser and deeper. Covered by silvery pubescence, dust like on metasoma, and some longer setae on frons, mesosoma and apex of metasomal sterna. Blackish and reddish-brown; following parts pale yellow: clypeus except lateral margins, interantennal space, lower part of inner eye margin, gena along outer eye margin, narrow apical bands on T1–T2 and S2. Wings hyaline with very weak orange tinge, venation orange basally and becoming blackis apically. FEMALE. Fore wing length 10.5 mm. Like male, except: head 1.25 × as wide as long in frontal view; clypeus in frontal view pyriform 1.1 × as long as wide, apical margin narrow and shallowly emarginte, apical teeth rounded, densely micropuntured with some sparse shallow macropunctures; gena 0.8 × as wide as eye at bottom of ocular sinus; vertex with foveae places in indistinct depression near occipital carina; scape 3.5 × as long as apically wide; F1 1.9 × as long as wide; F2–F9 becoming proportionally shorter towards apex; F10 bullet shaped; transverse carina of metanotum almost lacking; posterolateral angles of propodeum less produced; T 1 in dorsal view 0.6 × as long as wide; pilosity on metasoma longer; mid femur normal; clypeus entirely reddish-brown with suffused yellow lines at base and apex. Distribution. Madagascar: Antananarivo, Antsiranana, Fianarantsoa, Mahajanga, Toliara (Borsato 1999; de Saussure 1890; du Buysson 1900, 1907; Giordani Soika 1941, 1973, 1991; Gusenleitner 2000b, 2004b) (Fig. 26). Remarks. One of the authors (MS) examined the syntype series housed in MHNG. In order to provide a standard of reference for this species, a lectotype is designated. Giordani Soika (1973) designated a lectotype for the subspecies discolor, stating that it was deposited in MSNVE, but the specimen could not be found even searching in the whole collection, and is therefore considered lost (cf. Dal Pos et al. 2022). However, this taxon is synonymized under the typical form as it was characterized only by absence of yellowish markings, a character variable among Vespidae.
