Historiska återspeglingar : En studie om svensk turismhistoria genom fallstudier på Åre och Mölle

The idea of this thesis emerged from our common interest to explore the life cycle of Swedish tourist destinations. This study has historical features since we tried to identify crucial historical and current push and pull factors, which influenced destinations upturns and downturns. In order to achieve our primary goal and identify those factors, we made two case studies. We chose Åre and Mölle as our cases and these two areas will represent Swedish destinations, and their life cycles, as a whole. The destinations’ developing processes and their nowadays profile are not the same as for two hundred years ago which was a reason and motivation that made us start exploring this specific subject. It required an extensive historical overview and presentation of both global and local changes, which had a certain impact on the destinations. The method that we used is called hermeneutic and is based on comprehension and interpretation as the essential form of knowledge. This method gave us ability to interpret the presented facts with the help of our own knowledge about the subject. This specially concerns our applied models and the case studies that are implemented. In the analysis we presented our identified dominant factors that influenced our chosen destinations and summarised influences that have affected Swedish tourism through the history. At the end of this essay we presented our own conclusions and thoughts, which turned out to be a bit different than what was expected. We hope that our conclusions can help other students or scientists in their future researches within the same issue.Ämnet som presenteras i uppsatsen valdes utifrån vårt gemensamma intresse i att undersöka destinationslivscyklar av svenska turistdestinationer. Uppsatsen präglas av historien då vi, genom att identifiera historiska och aktuella push och pull faktorer, vill komma fram till vilka faktorer som påverkat Svenska destinationers upp- och nedgångar och på vilket sätt. För att kunna uppnå vårt syfte genomfördes två fallstudier. Vi valde Åre och Mölle som våra fall och de faktorer som påverkat dessa två orter representerar de faktorer som påverkat svenska destinationer i helhet. Deras specifika utvecklingsprocesser utspelades på olika sätt och deras profil idag, är inte den samma som för två hundra år sedan. Dessa aspekter var en motivation för oss att undersöka detta ämne. Det krävdes en omfattande historisk överblick och presentation av både globala och lokala händelser som på ett eller annat sätt påverkat destinationer i helhet. Hermeneutik, är den metod som använts i uppsatsen och den baseras på förståelse och tolkning som den främsta kunskapsformen. Denna metod gav oss möjlighet att tolka fakta utefter vår egen förståelse av ämnet. Detta gäller speciellt våra använda modeller och våra genomförda empiriska studier. I analysdelen presenteras de dominerande faktorer som påverkat våra valda destinationer och de sammanställda influenser som påverkat svensk turism genom historien. Slutligen presenterar vi våra egna tankar, slutsatser och diskussioner som visade sig vara mer annorlunda än vad vi förväntat oss. Vi hoppas att våra slutsatser kan hjälpa andra studenter och forskare inom turism, och bidra till vidare forskning inom samma ämne
