The primary goal in aquaculture is to maximize the growth and survival of farmed fishes at a minimal cost, which requires an understanding of the changes in metabolism undergone by different fish breeds during development. In particular, highly intensive aquaculture production systems, such as recirculating aquaculture systems, require a better understanding of oxygen consumption.
