Presently, iron oxide nanoparticles are the only ones approved for clinical use as contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Even though there is a high demand for these types of nanoparticles both for clinical use as well as for research, there are difficulties in obtaining stable nanoparticles with reproducible properties.
