This handwritten note, written by Abraham Lincoln to an unknown recipient states to Let their men take the oath of Dec. 8, 1863 and be discharged. Signed A. Lincoln and dated March 10, 1865. The Oath of December 8 was announced by Lincoln, on that day, in his annual message to congress in 1863 stating that he would offer a pardon to any man who would swear, without coercion, his allegiance to the Union.
