This work is dedicated to two recently discovered scintillating crystals: cerium doped lanthanum halides (LaCl3:Ce3+ and LaBr3:Ce3+).These scintillators exhibit interesting properties for gamma detection, more particularly in the field of medical imaging : a short decay time, a high light yield and an excellent energy resolution. The strong hygroscopicity of these materials requires adapting the usual experimental methods for determining physico-chemical properties. Once determined, these can be used for the development of the industrial manufacturing process of the crystals.
