In recent years, structural adhesive bonding has become a popular joining method for the transportation industry. Its development is nevertheless hindered by several limitations and by design rules that are still somewhat empirical. Even today, characterisation methods and finite element tools are not always appropriate for industrial applications. This thesis work consisted in developing an experimental and numerical approach to bring help in the design of structural adhesive bonds. For the mechanical characterisation of the adhesive within structural assemblies, a modified experimental M. ARCAN set up is used.
