Ever since the end of the 1970's, heat exchangers have known some new applications linked to the need of the energy expense optimisation. Fouling of such heat exchangers is one of the main causes of thermal efficiency decrease during their use. Indeed, fouling constitutes a major economic and technological problem where complex physical phenomena occur. In spite of the efforts displayed for these last decades, the existing detection and fouling follow up devices are still far from taking into account the heat transfer and the deposit phenomena involved.
