The general objectives of the thesis are : i/ to develop a wood density model for Sessile oak (Quercus petraea Liebl.), which can be linked with diameter and height growth models, ii/ to test the model in contrasted conditions of climate, silviculture and site quality, iii/ to estimate the between-tree variability of wood density (i.e. variation due to the « tree » effect) by the means of non destructive measurements on standing trees and iv/ to investigate the anatomical modifications which produce within- and between-tree variations of wood density. After a literature review in a first chapter of relations linking wood density and some features of internal wood quality for Oak, the second chapter is devoted to the establishment of a wood ...
