This thesis is devoted to study the phenomenon of initiation and propagation of a crack in a bituminous material. By applying an innovative test developed at LCPC (French PublicWorks Research Institute), we reproduce the conditions of initiation and propagation of a crack in a confined film of bitumen. The first part of the study introduces the approach which is used to identify the rheological properties by the generalized Maxwell model. The determination of Prony series is done by linear and non-linear optimization methods so that the complex modulus of asphalt binder could be accurately described in the frequency domain.
