An account of the first Hair Show presented by the Rafiki Braiding Academy in December, 2021. Describes the collaboration between Black Owned Maine and Rafiki Shop which led to the Academy, envisioned by founder Douglas Rutamu as a place to celebrate Black hair and Black cultures in defiance of the long legacy of hair-based discrimination still thriving in the United States. Discusses the significance of hair care and styling in many Black cultures, and how the connections forged through hair care strengthen the Black community
