The aim of this study was to develop a simple, highly efficient and transferable tool for Bartonella henselae typing, based on multiple Locus variable Number tandem repeat Analysis (MLVA). Five "main" VNTRs were selected according to their polymorphism ( BHV-A, B, C, D and E). Their combination allowed us to evaluate strain diversity and to establish the relationships between different strains of Bartonella henselae. When tested on 178 B. henselae isolates and strains, a diversity index of 0.98 and 99 profils were obtained. MLVA profiles were grouped into 2 main groups named A and B.
