Friction Stir Welding is an emerging joining technology for industry. To industrialize this process, we must study tool/material physical interaction and relations between weld quality and process parameters. In this context, we exploit experimental and numerical methods to understand the thermomechanical phenomena caused by the tool/material interaction during welding. Initially, we analyzed the mechanical aspect of the process by studying the mechanical efforts in FSW and material flow around the tool. A series of test runs was carried out to explain the energy aspect by studying mechanical and kinematic tensors between FSW tool and material.
