This thesis addresses the problematic of sensorless low speed operation of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) by signal injection. We focus on the effects of magnetic and cross saturations because their compensation is paramount to solve this problematic. We propose an original way of modeling magnetic saturation using an energy approach (Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations), where the physical symmetries are exploited to simplify the expression of the magnetic energy. Experimental data show that a simple polynomial of degree 4 is sufficient to describe accurately magnetic saturation effects.
