AM1 is a nickel-based superalloy that Snecma relies on to elaborate single crystal turbine blades having complex geometry and high resistance to extreme conditions of temperature and pressure. However, controlling heat flux during solidification process is difficult because of many reasons such as the complex geometry, the way of clustering parts and the superalloy solidification kinetics. Consequently, stray grain nucleation can occur in the undercooling liquid. Therefore, it is important to precisely identify critical undercooled zones during solidification.
