BACKGROUND AND TIMELINESS OF THE STUDY. Child battering is a shocking reality. It is not a new problem; it is as old as mankind. Unfortunately, it has only been in recent years that the conscience of society has been sufficiently provoked to concentrate on this phenomenon and to actively seek some practicable solutions. Agitation by interested individuals, with the cooperation of effective media, catapulted this cause into the public area. Professional concern for the plight of children who are battered by their parents swelled with the tide of publicity.
